A report in the Irish Independent says c. 27,000 people who worked in the hospitality sector are still getting PUP payments whilst huge number of businesses can’t get enough staff. Is this a case of a country shooting itself in the foot and just wasting money? Is the Government afraid to take a few hard, necessary decisions to try and help the tourism and hospitality sectors get back some lost revenue?
If a business tried to avoid or run away from taking the necessary decisions it would come to a very bad ending. How about trying some good leadership, a properly communicated strategy and justification for the decisions that would be in the best interests of the country? Isn’t that what Governments would advise businesses to do?
